Coming up for Air

We've been nestled in at my mother's house now for the last month soaking in all of the American comforts that we have missed for such a long time. It has been wonderful to reunite with family and friends and to just take a break from the frantic pace of life in Bundibugyo. While we miss our team and the community at CSB, we are deeply aware that we needed to leave, that the timing was right. Meanwhile our children are greeting America with fresh eyes:

Nate: What are those rocks in your soda? (ice cubes)
Louisa: Why are the trees naked? What happened to the leaves here?
Savannah: I don't want to wear my shoes outside! WHY ARE MY FEET COLD?
Joe: Do we have enough power to watch another TV show? Oh! I forgot, we are in America... unlimited power!

Both of the twins are fascinated by the garage door opener, by water that shoots straight out of the frig, and the fact that their tubbie water is (relatively) safe to drink. Nate wants to lick all of fluffy white blooms on the oriental pear trees right now. (He thinks thats where ice cream comes from.) AND Joe just got braces.

Over the next two weeks we will be gearing up for nine plus weeks in a tent as we travel around the country introducing our kids (and ourselves) to their home culture. We are hoping to squeeze in as many national parks as possible as we travel from coast to coast. As we look back on our time in Bundibugyo and look forward eagerly to what God has next for us, we find it somehow fitting to travel to the wilderness, to see God's hand in the wild places still left in the US. To rest our souls, so to speak, in His glory and creation. We hope to blog along the way, so stay tuned.

I loved reading this, because it brought back such vivid memories. The garage door opener, and the water coming cold out of the fridge door, were definitely the same two technological marvels that fascinated our kids. Keep writing about the transition. We need to hear it.
Love, Jennifer

So good to hear what you all are doing. The kid's quotes are very funny. I miss the Bart family! When we left Bundi, Nate and Savannah were hardly talking. Hope you have a wonderful family trip!

How I laughed about Nate and the ice cream coming from the pear blossoms!!!! Where on earth did that come from? Hello and hugs to all the kids!
